Climatology’s startling error – an update

By Christopher Monckton of Brenchley

HAS HE  GOTTEN TOO MUCH SUN AGAIN ?
Well, we sent out our paper

On an error in defining temperature feedback

to a leading journal for review.

The reviewers did not like it at all.

“And, gracious! How Lord Lundy cried!”

We are persevering, though, for in our submission nothing the reviewers have said  in  any  way  undermines  the scientific validity of our result, which I outlined here in a series some months back.

Here, I shall summarize our argument in layman’s terms
(for a layman is what I am).
"The predicted tropical mid-troposphere “hot spot” – I had the honor to name it – is made evident in the fashion with which we are now wearily familiar: lurid colors –"

More than 1,000 rockets belonging to an 18th-century Muslim warrior king have been found by excavators in an abandoned well in southern India, according to authorities.
The excavation of the open well in the Shimoga district of Karnataka state led to the unearthing of rockets and shells stored by Tipu Sultan for use in wars, according to the state’s assistant director of archaeology.
According to archeological records, the fort area in Shimoga was part of Tipu Sultan’s kingdom. The powerful ruler was killed in the fourth Anglo-Mysore war in 1799 after a string of victories in battle against the British East India Company.
He is credited with developing an early, indigenous rocket known as the Mysorean, a prototype of British Congreve rockets used in the Napoleonic wars.
“ “Excavation of the open well led to unearthing of over 1,000 corroded rockets that were stored during Tipu’s times for use in wars,”
R Shejeshwara Nayaka told Agence France-Presse from the site, 240 miles north-west of the state capital, Bangalore. Digging of the dry well where its mud was smelling like gunpowder led to the discovery of the rockets and shells in a pile.”
It took three days for the 15-member team of archaeologists, excavators and labourers to unearth the armoury and ammunition.
The rockets, measuring 23-26cm (9-10ins), will go on display at a museum in Shimoga.

WATTS LOOKS AT THE BRIGHT SIDE

NEWSWEEK:

JAPAN HEAT WAVE OFFICIALLY DECLARED A NATURAL DISASTER WITH 85 DEAD AND MORE THAN 22,000 HOSPITALIZED

BY DANIEL MORITZ-RABSON  ON 7/24/18

Surprise: Cold wave reveals potential benefits of urban heat islands

Anthony Watts  7/25/18 6 hours ago

From the PRINCETON UNIVERSITY, ENGINEERING SCHOOL and the “UHI is good for something” department. Still, it’s not a good place to measure climate change.
The concrete and asphalt that make city summers brutally hot might not be a bad thing during winter’s deep freeze.
Researchers from Princeton University have found that the urban heat island effect — cities are hotter in the summer than their surrounding areas — also helps keep cities warmer during extreme cold. The findings have implications for urban planners in areas such as New York City or Chicago, which experience marked seasonal temperature swings.

Thousands of scientists warn Trump’s border wall will threaten biodiversity

This includes more than 2,000 scientists from the U.S. and Mexico.

More than 2,500 scientists from 43 countries are joining together as signatories to a scientific paper warning about the environmental impacts of President Donald Trump’s proposed wall along the border between the United States and Mexico...
“Fences and walls erected along international boundaries in the name of national security have unintended but significant consequences for biodiversity,” states the study published in the scientific journal BioScience, authored by 16 scientists and signed onto by thousands of others.
The paper echoes concerns raised ever since the border wall was first introduced by Trump... Contained within the spending bill passed in March by Congress is the stipulation that none of the more than $1 billion allocated for the wall could be used for construction in the Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge...home to... half of the butterfly species found in North America...
Before any future construction happens, the scientists ask that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) do pre-planning surveys to identify species, habitats, and ecological resources at risk. The endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep, for instance, would be less able to move between California and Mexico to access water and birthing sites. And it will be “likely impossible” for other endangered animals, such as the Mexican gray wolf or the Sonoran pronghorn, to help reestablish smaller populations across the border, the scientists say.

"Donald Trump loved meeting the Queen...and I’ve a suspicion that the feeling was mutual... when you look at the various disreputable characters the Queen has had to entertain over the years on behalf of her government-
Communist  dictator  Ceausescu ,
Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe, Zairean dictator Mobutu... an engaging, funny, eager president like Trump, who so evidently loves both the Queen and Britain, must have felt like a breath of fresh air.

the Sunday Times‘s source says : “... It’s a very, very unusual thing for the Queen to be there on her own. Usually she is accompanied by somebody..." Prince Charles & Prince William may be embarrassed by Donald Trump. But they’re not nearly as embarrassed as many of us are by their frivolous, unwise, ill-advised rudeness towards the world’s greatest statesman..."

IF I HAVE  SEEN  LESS  FAR  THAN  OTHERS, IT  HAS  BEEN
BY  STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF TALLBLOKE

New Grange  has long reigned as Ireland's cyclopean answer to Stonehenge, but the tourist franchise of the vast megalithic pile now seems in doubt.
A drone camera flown during this year's withering Irish drought has revealed an  even larger ring  structure five minutes walk away. Even Tallbloke, a Watts & Curry  fellow traveler  who knows a thing or two about ignoring scientific evidence in persuit of climate denial is impressed  to the point of reblogging the discovery, but has he considered its ramifications?

The question that arises from this megalithic marvel lying fallow for millenia is: when will it dawn on the denialati that they have a new palaeoclimatic publicity problem. By by slumbering in obscurity for five thousand years, this monument threatens to  demote the largely anecdotal & local interludes climate obscurantists carp on --  Minoan, Roman, and Medieval, to Less Warm Than Now Periods too cool to reveal what lies below the surface of the past.

Now, at the dawn of the Anthropocene,  one of the worst droughts since the Bronze Age has made things long invisible plain as day.

An Ancient Mystery Henge Has Appeared in
'Once in a Lifetime'  Discovery in Ireland

"What the f*** is that?"
PETER DOCKRILL 17 JUL 2018
It materialised out of almost nowhere. Thousands of years after disappearing from human sight and knowledge, an ancient 'henge' site has been discovered hidden within the archaeological landscape of Ireland's Brú na Bóinne.

To reveal this long-forgotten structure, it took a chance intersection between an aerial drone flight and a brutal hot streak that's been slowly roasting the UK for weeks.

The same environmental conditions have unveiled dozens of concealed architectural apparitions in recent weeks, but when eyes were laid on this prehistoric, epic circle invisibly cradled within the Boyne Valley, the sacred truly met the profane.

"What the f*** is that?" photographer and author Anthony Murphy yelled to another photographer friend nearby.

"I've been telling all the media here that I shouted, 'What the hell is that,' but it was actually a stronger expletive," he explained to NPR.

"When we saw this, we knew straight away, this had never been seen or recorded before."Co-discoverer and fellow drone photographer Ken Williams at first couldn't believe the pictures the drones were relaying, assuming the traced outline of buried prehistoric mounds was a strange artefact of drone interference, or perhaps crop circles stamped by pranksters.

"What we were looking at seemed too good to be true," he wrote on his blog.

"We moved in closer to look at it in detail, [and] we could see for certain that this was the colouration of standing crops that had not been interfered with. What we were looking at was beneath, within the soil, not in the crops themselves."

The circular pattern is approximately 150 metres (492 ft) in diameter, with an interior space stretching up to 120 metres (393 ft) in diameter.

LIVE FROM BLENHEIM, MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING SUMMIT

President Trump Donald Trump's day as No. 10's nightmare guest began with  a demarche-worthy interview with The Sun claiming a trade deal was off, because Theresa May had ruined Brexit, and ended with his talking up free trade with the Prime Minister over a royal-free dinner at Blenheim Palace.

Before tea with the Queen the following afternoon, he told  hacks a trade deal was back on the table, and said the Sun interview was 'fake news', despite it being recorded and available on YouTube. He concluded by calling May  an 'incredible' woman who had raised Anglo-American relations to  'the highest level of special.'

NO MORE TIGER IN  KOCH THINK TANK: EXXON QUITS ALEC

Joining  Shell, BP, and Occidental Petroleum, Exxon has joined the exodus from premier climate bafflegab brewer, The American Legislative Exchange Council. Journalists have linked the dispute to a Heartland Institute  proposal to try to convince government to deny that climate change poses significant  risks.
Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and Yelp  parted company with ALEC in 2014 due to differences on climate change policy, notably ALEC  providing senators and congressional Representatives with drafts of  “model legislation” to limit renewable energy  and EPA regulation.
“We review our memberships on an annual basis and this year we have decided to discontinue our membership in ALEC,” ExxonMobil spokesperson Scott Silvestri said in a statement Thursday. ALEC said in a reply that  “Organization government relations strategies change over time, and we have valued ExxonMobil’s work and leadership with ALEC on STEM education, among other issues.”

WOULD YOU BUY A USED SNOWBALL FROM THIS MAN ?

Want to be part of the climate revolution?

by Ed Berry, PhD, Physics

About Climate
Over the past year, I developed a new physics insight into how human emissions change atmospheric carbon dioxide. The bottom line is the belief that human carbon dioxide emissions cause significant climate change is an illusion.
The truth is our carbon dioxide emissions have very little effect on atmospheric carbon dioxide. And without a strong effect on carbon dioxide, our emissions are negligible to climate change.
I am not the first or only scientist to make this conclusion. But I have made it very simple to understand. (My professional paper on this subject is in review by a prominent scientific journal.)
Yet today’s political and continuing inaccurate scientific discourse still assumes human emissions cause all the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide. But they assume wrong. It is now easy to prove that Al Gore, the United Nations IPCC, and IPCC climate models have climate physics totally wrong starting at square one of the physics. They have built a whole political movement on a foundation of sand. And now, it’s about to crumble.
This new climate concept is so simple that I can teach it to the general public. I can show the public, voters, and political candidates why the “climate change” that Democrats claim is due to human emissions, is 95 percent caused by nature and only 5 percent caused by humans. Just showing the human effect is less than one part in 20 of the claimed climate change, reduces the political claims about climate change to zero.
My goal is to help elect Republicans in November by teaching enough people the truth about climate change. Some of you can help me. Since this is a brand new concept, I need practice...
So, if you are within about an hour drive of Bigfork, Montana, or you have money to pay my travel expenses, I invite you to gather your group of 6 to 12 people and contact me... This is the start of a climate revolution. You can be a part of it. Let’s make it snowball!

SCHNARE SNARED IN TANGLED TULSA WEB

He Sues to Discredit Climate Scientists. Now He’s Being Sued by His Allies.

David Schnare’s conservative legal group seeks to expose science fraud. But it appears to be imploding amid allegations of financial mismanagement, attempted extortion and faked documents.

By John Schwartz  THE NEW YORK TIMES
July 11, 2018

FAIRFAX, Va. — The Free Market Environmental Law Clinic has long sought to inject doubt into the public conversation about global warming. Now, the future of the group itself is in doubt.
Its founders are battling in court over control of the group, as well as some $900,000 in its bank account. One of them, David Schnare, has been accused by his former allies of botching the group’s tax-exempt status and of attempting to extort a quarter-million dollars from its coffers.
It all comes at a time when Free Market — which made a name for itself using the legal system to obtain climate scientists’ emails — should be ascendant. The Trump administration shares its views on environmental regulation and its dismissal of climate science. And Mr. Schnare, 70, was part of the Trump “beachhead team” at the Environmental Protection Agency during the transition between presidential administrations, though he did not last long there.
Mr. Schnare, in an interview, initially expressed reluctance to discuss the situation at Free Market. “Attorneys are not supposed to talk about and try cases in the press,” he said. Then he added, “I completely deny all these nasty accusations.”
