WILL PARIS  ALWAYS HAVE KYOTO TO REMEMBER ?

A generation after the US refused to ratify the Kyoto Agreement, temperatures in Japan's rainbow-prone ancient capital have exceeded 100 degrees for seventh straight days, breaking all known records.

IF I HAVE  SEEN  LESS  FAR  THAN  OTHERS, IT  HAS  BEEN
BY  STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF TALLBLOKE

New Grange  has long reigned as Ireland's cyclopean answer to Stonehenge, but the tourist franchise of the vast megalithic pile now seems in doubt.
A drone camera flown during this year's withering Irish drought has revealed an  even larger ring  structure five minutes walk away. Even Tallbloke, a Watts & Curry  fellow traveler  who knows a thing or two about ignoring scientific evidence in persuit of climate denial is impressed  to the point of reblogging the discovery, but has he considered its ramifications?

The question that arises from this megalithic marvel lying fallow for millenia is: when will it dawn on the denialati that they have a new palaeoclimatic publicity problem. By by slumbering in obscurity for five thousand years, this monument threatens to  demote the largely anecdotal & local interludes climate obscurantists carp on --  Minoan, Roman, and Medieval, to Less Warm Than Now Periods too cool to reveal what lies below the surface of the past.

Now, at the dawn of the Anthropocene,  one of the worst droughts since the Bronze Age has made things long invisible plain as day.

An Ancient Mystery Henge Has Appeared in
'Once in a Lifetime'  Discovery in Ireland

"What the f*** is that?"
PETER DOCKRILL 17 JUL 2018
It materialised out of almost nowhere. Thousands of years after disappearing from human sight and knowledge, an ancient 'henge' site has been discovered hidden within the archaeological landscape of Ireland's Brú na Bóinne.

To reveal this long-forgotten structure, it took a chance intersection between an aerial drone flight and a brutal hot streak that's been slowly roasting the UK for weeks.

The same environmental conditions have unveiled dozens of concealed architectural apparitions in recent weeks, but when eyes were laid on this prehistoric, epic circle invisibly cradled within the Boyne Valley, the sacred truly met the profane.

"What the f*** is that?" photographer and author Anthony Murphy yelled to another photographer friend nearby.

"I've been telling all the media here that I shouted, 'What the hell is that,' but it was actually a stronger expletive," he explained to NPR.

"When we saw this, we knew straight away, this had never been seen or recorded before."Co-discoverer and fellow drone photographer Ken Williams at first couldn't believe the pictures the drones were relaying, assuming the traced outline of buried prehistoric mounds was a strange artefact of drone interference, or perhaps crop circles stamped by pranksters.

"What we were looking at seemed too good to be true," he wrote on his blog.

"We moved in closer to look at it in detail, [and] we could see for certain that this was the colouration of standing crops that had not been interfered with. What we were looking at was beneath, within the soil, not in the crops themselves."

The circular pattern is approximately 150 metres (492 ft) in diameter, with an interior space stretching up to 120 metres (393 ft) in diameter.

LIVE FROM BLENHEIM, MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING SUMMIT

President Trump Donald Trump's day as No. 10's nightmare guest began with  a demarche-worthy interview with The Sun claiming a trade deal was off, because Theresa May had ruined Brexit, and ended with his talking up free trade with the Prime Minister over a royal-free dinner at Blenheim Palace.

Before tea with the Queen the following afternoon, he told  hacks a trade deal was back on the table, and said the Sun interview was 'fake news', despite it being recorded and available on YouTube. He concluded by calling May  an 'incredible' woman who had raised Anglo-American relations to  'the highest level of special.'

NO MORE TIGER IN  KOCH THINK TANK: EXXON QUITS ALEC

Joining  Shell, BP, and Occidental Petroleum, Exxon has joined the exodus from premier climate bafflegab brewer, The American Legislative Exchange Council. Journalists have linked the dispute to a Heartland Institute  proposal to try to convince government to deny that climate change poses significant  risks.
Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and Yelp  parted company with ALEC in 2014 due to differences on climate change policy, notably ALEC  providing senators and congressional Representatives with drafts of  “model legislation” to limit renewable energy  and EPA regulation.
“We review our memberships on an annual basis and this year we have decided to discontinue our membership in ALEC,” ExxonMobil spokesperson Scott Silvestri said in a statement Thursday. ALEC said in a reply that  “Organization government relations strategies change over time, and we have valued ExxonMobil’s work and leadership with ALEC on STEM education, among other issues.”

Want to be part of the climate revolution?

by Ed Berry, PhD, Physics

About Climate
Over the past year, I developed a new physics insight into how human emissions change atmospheric carbon dioxide. The bottom line is the belief that human carbon dioxide emissions cause significant climate change is an illusion.
The truth is our carbon dioxide emissions have very little effect on atmospheric carbon dioxide. And without a strong effect on carbon dioxide, our emissions are negligible to climate change.
I am not the first or only scientist to make this conclusion. But I have made it very simple to understand. (My professional paper on this subject is in review by a prominent scientific journal.)
Yet today’s political and continuing inaccurate scientific discourse still assumes human emissions cause all the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide. But they assume wrong. It is now easy to prove that Al Gore, the United Nations IPCC, and IPCC climate models have climate physics totally wrong starting at square one of the physics. They have built a whole political movement on a foundation of sand. And now, it’s about to crumble.
This new climate concept is so simple that I can teach it to the general public. I can show the public, voters, and political candidates why the “climate change” that Democrats claim is due to human emissions, is 95 percent caused by nature and only 5 percent caused by humans. Just showing the human effect is less than one part in 20 of the claimed climate change, reduces the political claims about climate change to zero.
My goal is to help elect Republicans in November by teaching enough people the truth about climate change. Some of you can help me. Since this is a brand new concept, I need practice...
So, if you are within about an hour drive of Bigfork, Montana, or you have money to pay my travel expenses, I invite you to gather your group of 6 to 12 people and contact me... This is the start of a climate revolution. You can be a part of it. Let’s make it snowball!

SCHNARE SNARED IN TANGLED TULSA WEB

He Sues to Discredit Climate Scientists. Now He’s Being Sued by His Allies.

David Schnare’s conservative legal group seeks to expose science fraud. But it appears to be imploding amid allegations of financial mismanagement, attempted extortion and faked documents.

FAIRFAX, Va. — The Free Market Environmental Law Clinic has long sought to inject doubt into the public conversation about global warming. Now, the future of the group itself is in doubt.
Its founders are battling in court over control of the group, as well as some $900,000 in its bank account. One of them, David Schnare, has been accused by his former allies of botching the group’s tax-exempt status and of attempting to extort a quarter-million dollars from its coffers.
It all comes at a time when Free Market — which made a name for itself using the legal system to obtain climate scientists’ emails — should be ascendant. The Trump administration shares its views on environmental regulation and its dismissal of climate science. And Mr. Schnare, 70, was part of the Trump “beachhead team” at the Environmental Protection Agency during the transition between presidential administrations, though he did not last long there.
Mr. Schnare, in an interview, initially expressed reluctance to discuss the situation at Free Market. “Attorneys are not supposed to talk about and try cases in the press,” he said. Then he added, “I completely deny all these nasty accusations.”

                                   HIS  LAMEST  HOUR

Breitbart Delingpole: Pruitt

Is Gone, but Trump Is Still Winning the Energy Wars

[T]he departure of Scott Pruitt tell you all you need to know.

It was about desperate, vengeful progressives claiming a political scalp as their peevish sop to console themselves for their despair that Donald Trump is #winning. It was a big scalp, too, to give them their miserable due. Scott Pruitt... gave Trump the moral support he needed to make the key decision (opposed by many within the White House, notably Javanka and then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson) to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate accord.

Under the new EPA, both those rattlesnakes have been defanged and will shortly be crushed underfoot. So whatever satisfaction the left may derive from the tiny victory of booting Pruitt out of office, they’ve still lost the war...
His replacement, Andrew Wheeler, though, is their worst nightmare.
He’s an ex-coal-industry lobbyist.
He led the team – with Steve Milloy – that killed Cap and Trade in 2009/10.
He gets – far more than Scott Pruitt ever did – that environmentalism has nothing to do with saving the planet and everything to do with killing capitalism.
Pruitt may be gone.
But the same president remains in the White House...

THE SUN ALSO RISES ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT

Podesta Depot  Climate Progress says the findings of a new survey commissioned by Swytch, “a blockchain-based platform that tracks and verifies the impact of sustainability efforts and actions on the worldwide level of CO2 emissions.
” match those of a GOP polling firm that found 75 percent of Trump voters support taking action to accelerate the development and use of clean energy... the survey published on Thursday found that a remarkable 38 percent of National Rifle Association (NRA) members have solar panels — more than twice the percentage of the general population (17 percent)...
the official NRA store
 online itself sells an
 “NRA Survival Solar Power Bank,”
Recent years have seen the emergence of a so-called “Green Tea Party” or Coalition — conservatives who support clean energy. Indeed a 2017 article in Environmental Sociology, “Green tea: clean-energy conservatism as a countermovement,” notes that “Clean-energy conservatism has emerged, in part, as a dissenting response to the alignment of conservatism with support for fossil fuels.”...

Last Wednesday

The New York Times
ran this deadpan call for climatically correct fireworks:

A Greener Red, White and Blue?

Welcome to the Climate Fwd: newsletter
On this Fourth of July, we’re thinking about the environmental impact of fireworks. And if you missed it, we have a report about global warming putting 800 million people in South Asia at risk...

By Tryggvi Adalbjornsson     The New York Times Climate Team  JULY 4 2018
“Mom, are they going to turn off fireworks because of you?”

Kimberly Prather remembers her kids asking her that when they learned that she had written a scientific study of fireworks pollution. Professor Prather is a chemist at University of California San Diego who spends most of her time studying cloud formation. But she has a side interest — fireworks.

The goal of fireworks is to be big, loud and colorful. To achieve that, a range of chemicals is needed, often including charcoal-based fuel along with various metal compounds to make the colors. For instance, copper has a role in blue bursts, and strontium in red ones...

There’s a chance for “green” fireworks in the future, though — and not the barium kind. Another pyrotechnic-minded professor, Thomas M. Klapötke of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany, has been looking for ways to make fireworks better for the environment. His research focuses on military-grade products (flares, for instance)...
In 2014, his team introduced a new way to make blue fireworks. Traditionally, chlorine was involved, but “Our new chlorine-free coloring agent could revolutionize the manufacture of fireworks and blue-emitting signal flares for the U.S. Army and Navy,” he said at the time.

Coming soon, in other words: Maybe more fireworks that don’t take your breath away?

COMING OF AGE IN THE NECROLITHIC

While debate continues as to when the Anthropocene epoch was born, collectors of nomological emblems of still living collectives and other fans of the Necrolithic era will celebrate its 21st birthday come December:
Natural history museums, like the American Museum, constitute one decisive means for power to de-privatize and re-publicize, if only ever so slightly, the realms of death by putting dead remains into public service as social tokens of collective life, rereading dead fossils as chronicles of life’s everlasting quest for survival,
and canonizing now dead individuals as nomological emblems of still living collectives in Nature and History. An anatomo-politics of human and non-human bodies is sustained by accumulating and classifying such necroliths in the museum’s observational/expositional performances.

THEY ALSO SERVE WHO ONLY STAND AND WAIT
                                     TO BE INDICTED

Administrator Pruitt has sent President Trump perhaps the greatest letter of resignation since the doyen of fossil fuel friendly former State Attorney Generals, Albert Bacon Fall stepped down as Warren Harding's Secretary of the Interiorafter his felony conviction for taking a $385,000 bribe from his Mammoth Petroleum pals to help them suck the Navy's strategic oil reserve dry.

Some inspiring excerpts:

Mr. President, it has been an honor to serve you...

Truly, your confidence in me has blessed me...

I thank you for the opportunity to serve you...

It is extremely difficult for me to cease serving you i

I count it a blessing to be serving you...

My desire in service to you has always been to bless you...

I believe you are serving as President today because of God’s providence...

I believe that same providence brought me into your service...

I pray as I have served you that I have blessed you...

Your Faithful Friend,
Scott Pruitt
As a Republican Senate Committee Chairman, it fell on Fall to converse with  Woodrow Wilson in his White House bedroom in 1919 to see if the stricken President was well enough to remain in office
"I have been praying for you, Sir,"
Said Fall  to the bedridden Chief Executive, who showed sufficient presence of mind to continue by asking:
 "Which way, Senator?"

EPA ADMINISTRATOR SILENT ON NEW SUPERFUND SITE

AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY
Friday morning,  a 20,000 barrel warehouse collapsed at the  Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, polluting that Commonwealth's waters with all or part of the contents of  9,000  casks  of aging bourbon- about 500,000 gallons,  or a hundred million juleps worth.
Pruitt's teetotal silence in the matter has not stopped Kentucky's Energy and Environmental Cabinet from citing Sazarac, the distillery's parent company,
"for failing to report the spill in a timely manner and for polluting the waters of the commonwealth"
and Sazarac may well be hearing from Greenpace too, as the spill of a "fair amount" of whiskey and rawer spirits inundated the  adjacent holler, ending the lives of 800 innocent creek-dwelling fish, many of them the sadly unendangered gizzard shad.
