HE IMPLEMENTED THE CLIMATE TREATY REAGAN SIGNED

PRESIDENT ATTRIBUTES DIPLOMATIC BAD HAIR DAY
                     TO MOVEMENT IN THE ATMOSPHERE

One of the problems that a
lot of people like myself, we have very high levels
of intelligence,
but we’re not necessarily such believers.

You look at our air and our water and it’s right now at a record clean. But when you look at China and you look at parts of Asia and when you look at South America, and when you look at many other places in this world, including Russia, including–just many other places—the air is incredibly dirty.

And when you’re talking about an atmosphere, oceans are very small. And it blows over and it sails over. I mean, we take thousands of tons of garbage off our beaches all the time that comes over from Asia. It just flows right down the Pacific, it flows, and we say where does this come from. And it takes many people to start off with.
No. 2, if you go back and if you look at articles, they talked about global freezing, they talked about at some point the planets could have freezed to death, then it’s going to die of heat exhaustion. There is movement in the atmosphere. There’s no question. As to whether or not it’s man-made and whether or not the effects that you’re talking about are there, I don’t see it—not nearly like it is.

CAN WATTS' 401K SURVIVE UNTIL THE NEXT ICE AGE?

Why this new meme on social media is not just wrong, but belittling

By Donna Laframboise, from her Facebook page
Among the Good Kind WUWT contributors Donna Laframboise admires are Jo Nova and her husband David Evans, who tout a hedge fund for climate contrarians
This photo is making the rounds at the moment. People I love and admire have posted it. Good people. Kind people. So I’m going to try to explain why it’s counter productive.
As a journalist I have followed the climate debate closely for a decade. When I research a topic, I dig deep. I assure you, it has never been the position of skeptics that ‘climate change isn’t real.’ That is a fundamental misrepresentation.
The climate has always changed. The last Ice Age was a mere 12,000 years ago. From this perspective, the claim that climate change is ‘caused by humans’ strikes skeptics as profoundly scientifically illiterate, a case of puny humanity exaggerating its importance on a planet whose climate was doing its own thing *billions* of years before humans even appeared.
The real question is: What portion of current climate change is caused by humanity?
Despite research costing billions, science cannot answer this question.

ANOTHER CLARION CALL FOR BIPARTISAN CLIMATE POLICY

SALON

Science is fake! Right-wing media defaults to conspiracy theory to debunk climate report

There really is a conspiracy to deceive the public about climate change — but it’s not coming from the left

Donald Trump's administration used the Thanksgiving holiday to release the fourth National Climate Assessment report, a periodic government report generated by government agencies in response to federal guidelines established in 1990. Trump had no legal power to stop the report from being released but, in an obvious effort to hide its dire predictions, published it on Black Friday, hoping it would go unnoticed. The strategy may have backfired, however, as there wasn't much other headline news to compete with the report, meaning it likely got more coverage than news stories about climate change usually receive. (Sadly, I can assure you such things are ratings kryptonite.)

Truffles may disappear in decades

Samantha Page reports in Cosmos

Separated by 400 million years, different truffles all smell delicious
Production of the lucrative black truffle, Tuber melanosporum, could end in the next 50 to 80 years as the Mediterranean region grows warmer and drier.
"Our new study predicts that, under the most likely climate change scenario, European truffle production will decline by between 78 and 100% between 2071 and 2100,” says lead author Paul Thomas, of the University of Stirling, UK.
Thomas and his colleagues looked at 36 years of black truffle yield from France, Spain, and Italy and correlated the data to weather conditions over that timespan. They then used climate models to predict future fungus yields.
Continued production through 2071 could even be optimistic, Thomas says: “The decline may well occur in advance of this date, when other climate change factors are taken into account, such as heatwaves, forest fires, drought events, pests and disease.” France, Spain, and Italy are the largest producers of black truffles, which today cost around $2000 per kilogram.,, The UN’s World Food Program calls food insecurity one of the “most significant impacts of climate change”...

“However, the socio-economic impact of the predicted decline could be substantially larger as truffle harvesting and related activities form a key component of local history and cultural activity.”

According to a 2014 study that looked at truffle production around the world, “the total economic impact [of the industry] includes not only fresh truffles sold by farmers, but also agritourism, local mycological gastronomy, production of value-added truffle products, truffle fairs and retail markets, increase in agricultural land price in truffle-growing regions, production of mycorrhizal seedlings in nurseries, dog training, consumption of agricultural supplies by truffle growers, [and] technical assessment services.”

“These findings indicate that conservational initiatives are required to afford some protection to this important and iconic species,” [Thomas] says. “Potential action could include the expansion of truffle plantations into new territories of a more favourable future climate.”

INFERNAL INSOLENCE IS THE PRICE OF TWITTERY

Musings about “…the crystal meth of social media”

TWITTER’S GONE CRAZY BANNING PEOPLE ON THE RIGHT, so I’ve deactivated my Twitter account.
He’s right, Twitter is a cesspool.
And, the company that won’t give me the blue checkmark and appears to have shadowbanned my content? They’ve certainly been biased towards WUWT. Is it worth keeping my Twitter account?
Given the attacks, character assassinations, childishness, and boorishness I endure there daily, I’ve thought more than a few times about why I bother to continue publishing on Twitter.
The inevitable answer I always come back to is:  “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”. Twitter can only work if people of principle stand up and use it as a tool to fight back.
As for my detractors; Best wishes, I forgive you, because I know you are unable to help yourselves.

DID THE WHALE OIL INDUSTRY KNOW
ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING BEFORE THE GENERAL PUBLIC?

Like predicting the immanent collapse of civilization, denouncing oil magnates has been a popular pastime since before the Civil War.

President John Quincy Adams shown here enjoying an energy efficient 22 watt lamp that ran on renewable organic fuel, was still in the White House when Baron Fourier first adduced the Greenhouse Effect.

At the time, things looked bright for America. Its whalers led the world in fueling the new illumination revolution. Good riddance to candles-  with newfangled whale and Argand oil lamps, clerks could at last read and write 24-7, witness this document's clear hand :
WHALING SHIP PASSPORT SIGNED BY PRES.  J.Q. ADAMS
In 1848, by far the brightest public room in the nocturnal world was the library of the Nantucket Athaneum, where some whaling captains paid their dues in light, with the finest kind of sperm whale head oil. But the Quaker captains  monopoly on illumination was not to last.
WHAT DID THEY KNOW & WHEN DID THEY KNOW IT?

Word of  Colonel  Drake's  rock- oil strike reached Britain even as Sir John Tyndall  was working on popular science lectures for good Victorian folk like these :
and fashioning optics of infra-red  transparent rock salt to measure how rock oil gases like CO2 and CH4 absorbed heat in the air, as he would relate in
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society
"Now if, as the above experiments indicate the chief influence be exercised by the aqueous vapour, every variation of this constituent  must produce a change of climate. Similar remarks would apply to the carbonic acid diffused through the air "
 - JOHN TYNDALL FRS:
'On the absorption and radiation of heat by gases and vapours'

These being the historical facts, one wonders how ethical Victorian whalers could fail to denounce Colonel Drake for flooding global markets with unrenewable energy, and  capitalistic efforts to make lighting cheaper and worse by blighting Victorian skylines with mammoth coal gas works?  Back  issues  of  Nature Climate Change, The Manchester Guardian, and The Nantucket Inquirer&Mirror are strangely silent on this matter.
Capacity 100 Whales. Made 1st effort to relate climate sensitivity to Ocean Whale Content
Worse still, the founders of the revered national journal that today celebrates the works of Jared Diamond and Naomi Klein shied away from denouncing the evil dawn of fossil fuel.
Unable to find whales in Pennsylvania,
Colonel Drake was driven to invent the oil well.

The Nation's dereliction doomed a generation of Native American harpooners to unemployment by letting pass Peak Whale propaganda from Standard Oil's minions in the press.
But the truth will out. Two centuries later, posterity, Pelosi and Podesta all demand to know:

How could the clear light of renewable whale oil have been eclipsed by evil-smelling kerosine if the The Nation's ostensibly abolitionist Republican publishers, Richard Nixon's Quaker forebears included, were not on the take from Colonel Drake, Big Anthracite and the Franklin Stove Trust in 1865?

Had The Nation but warned that rock oil changes everything, a press gang of Marblehead fisherman would surely have rowed up the Delaware, as their fathers did to aid General Washington, and taken the rapscallion Colonel on a one-way Nantucket sleighride.

California Governor: “In Less than Five Years, Even the Worst Skeptics Will Be Believers”

Jerry Brown, photo author Neon Tommy, source Wikimedia

Guest essay by Eric Worrall
h/t Breitbart – Governor Jerry Brown of California thinks coming climate disasters will convert even the “worst” skeptics in five years, though in a surprisingly moderate interview (for Brown) he also admitted that forest management might be playing a part in California’s wildfires

The Maxim of our resolve:
