                          orders 'historic' demolition of 

seven wind turbines

Windfarm opponents are claiming a major victory after Hérault court 

ruled that the turbines must be demolished as they were built without

 the correct permission

Marjolaine Villey-Migraine, of VPPN Collectif 34-12,

a group of 65 associations, said the Montpellier tribunal 

ruling was historic: “It is a first in France and will become

a precedent for future cases.”

The court ordered that the 93m turbines at Bernagues in

 the Grands Causses in Hérault must be demolished, even

 if the owners launch an appeal.

VPPN says the turbines are a danger to the environment.

Ms Villey-Migraine said: “They are on top of a mountain,

in a region with protected species including golden eagles.

One young eagle was killed by a turbine and 

'the death of  a cinereous vulture  led to an
order for the turbines to turn only at night'

"There are also restrictions due to bats. Other turbines on 

the mountains threaten protected species, but these were 

the only ones we could challenge in the courts over the 

building permit.”

Rabbits and rodents are drawn to the recently dug sites 

and this is a fatal attraction for eagles, which fly at

the same height as the turbine blades.

He complained of being ‘intellectually raped’ on BBC Horizon after Royal Society president and Nobel laureate Sir Paul Nurse presented him with a medical analogy to illustrate the nature of the scientific consensus on climate:

Were Delingpole suffering from cancer, asked Nurse, would he opt for the  “consensus”  treatment recommended by clinical scientists , or do his own research, and treat himself ?

 

Which, as can be seen  left Delingpole quite at a loss for words.

Abstract

Ferrovolcanism, yet to be directly observed, is the most exotic and poorly understood predicted manifestation of planetary volcanism. 

Large-scale experiments carried out at the Syracuse Lava Project offer insight into the emplacement dynamics of metallic flows as well as coeval metallic and silicate flows. 

Here, we find that, under the same environmental conditions, higher-density/lower-viscosity metallic lava moves ten times faster than lower-density/higher-viscosity silicate lava. The overall morphology of the silicate flow is not significantly affected by the co-emplacement of a metallic flow. Rather, the metallic flow is largely decoupled from the silicate flow, occurring mainly in braided channels underneath the silicate flow and as low-relief breakouts from the silicate flow front. Turbulent interactions at the metallic-silicate flow interface result in mingling of the two liquids, preserved as erosional surfaces and sharp contacts.

The results have important implications for the interpretation of possible ferrovolcanic landscapes across our solar system.

But even as he damned  Gate's interest in geoengineering as the greatest threat to civilization since Windows 95, an ungoverned volcanic eruption turned the sun dim as his host from Martinique to Barbados and beyond.

Tucker Carlson Tonight seems to have been channeling Carl Sagan's last Nightline gig. As the oil wells of Kuwait went up in black smoke in 1991, Sagan told Ted Koppel the fallout would kill millions in an apocalyptic  'nuclear winter'. 

"Like the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs?" Koppel asked. "Exactly", Sagan replied.  Only one thing went wrong with Sagan's hyperbolic prediction:   It didn't happen.

Carlson may be too clueless to recognize recycled Cold War hype, or realize that the kilogram-scale aerosol SRM experiments that have been proposed are dwarfed by kiloton volcanic dust-ups on weekly basis, but Schellenberger ought to know better: climate communication has problems enough without conspiracy theories, photoshopped catastrophes or prophets of doom who fail to deliver.

Last week's St.Vincent eruption certainly did happen- the volcanic debris kicked into the tropopause adumbrated millions of square kilometers, and 16,000 souls were evacuated from the eruption zone lest hot rocks land on their heads. But as with the Gulf War oil fires, the modest optical depth of the vast and scary downwind plume didn't translate into enough cooling to merit a wire service story -- the Climate Desk can't be everywhere

The ground truth in Barbados is amply grim, but the problem is not   the wan sun. It's still mighty warm, and falling ash has clogged every air conditioner on the heavily touristed island- the wind at the elevation of the volcano plume blows opposite to the trade winds, creating a jet stream conveyor belt. The ash falls softly as snow, and as la Soufriere's explosive eruption continues, the bulk of what goes up on St.Vincent comes down on Barbados in a matter of hours: the last eruption on this scale, in 1902, lasted eight months, and killed 1.800.

It has as much reason to fear extinction as the Playboy Bunny, or the late great Robert der Große, the former World's Largest Rabbit who met an horrific fate in Pyongyang in 2007.

A hare-raising Prussian philanthropist sent the great beast East as an act of public diplomacy, in hope its gargantuan  offspring  would help end North Korea's chronic state of  famine, for besides thriving on a diet of roots and cabbage trimmings, Prussian Giant Greys like Robert der Große by definition breed like rabbits.

Unfortunately, Herr Szmolinsky's 20-kilogram überbunny landed on the eve of Kim Jong-il's birthday party, and  before  it could reach sanctuary in the People's Petting Zoo, the jet-lagged Brandenburg lagomorph was spotted and spirited away by a cadre of the Great Comrade's ever vigilant culinary talent scouts.

The shocking act of lepicide that followed left the world's largest rabbit outside of the world's largest rabbit skin, and inside of the largest wok in Pyongyang, en route to its gala diplomatic debut at Dear Leader Jung-il's birthday banquet, in the company of iced Uzbek malossal caviar, braised Russian bear paws, and a savory hippo hot-pot donated by President Kuanda of Zambia.
