AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY |
Friday morning, a 20,000 barrel warehouse collapsed at the Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, polluting that Commonwealth's waters with all or part of the contents of 9,000 casks of aging bourbon- about 500,000 gallons, or a hundred million juleps worth.
Pruitt's teetotal silence in the matter has not stopped Kentucky's Energy and Environmental Cabinet from citing Sazarac, the distillery's parent company,
"for failing to report the spill in a timely manner and for polluting the waters of the commonwealth"
and Sazarac may well be hearing from Greenpace too, as the spill of a "fair amount" of whiskey and rawer spirits inundated the adjacent holler, ending the lives of 800 innocent creek-dwelling fish, many of them the sadly unendangered gizzard shad.
